Session 4 - To The West...

PREVIOUS:

We have just finished with the farm house and the tax collector.  The trip back to town is easy and no incidents to report.  We make contact for our next job only to find out that we have been set up and shipped to another location or realm.  Our only way back is to locate a certain wizard and quest for a potion.  Early in our journey we learn that the wizard has gone missing and we will not survive this realm long if we can not get back soon.  We manage to get to the entrance to a dark forest that was the wizards last known location.  After surviving our first encounter we rest for the night and prepaid ourselves for the dark Forest.

Day 10:  196 days left;  Evening (Ches 9, Year 498 AF)

We are at the sign that says that we need to go to the left because it is 10 days to the Triboar trail.  The night is falling and we have a decision to make.  We decide that we are going to do a long rest and start in the morning.  During the first hours of darkness Timothy the Chronocorn comes back to us.  The night goes well and we make it to the morning.  We are planning to take the path to the left and make it into the Forest of Doom before the end of the day.

As we travel toward the trail that enters the forest we encounter another group of people.  The other group is friendly and they appear to be just normal travelers.

Day 13; 193 days left; morning (Ches 12, Year 498 AF)

We have been on the road now for three days.  As we are about to start the day we see 5 creatures stumble out of the forest.  They all look like they have been pounded on.  They appear to be genesi:  2 fires, 2 airs, and a water.  There appears to be a wizard and fighters.
- Firebeard; shouts at them and asks what they are fleeing from.
- genesi; we just had to get out of the forest and what was checking them
- Kaminari offer to heal them some damage in exchange for their stories.
Before i have a chance to start healing an Owl Bear and a Ogre burst from the trees.  They look like they have taken damage already and they are not looking in top form
- Firebeard; takes a strike and we learn that the Owl Bear has an Ac of 13
- Ogre; strikes at Aggadah with a club and deals some major damage
- genesi; take a step toward and attacks the Ogre and hits
- genesi wizard; shouts that he believes that these two creatures are able to regenerate
- genesi; throws a dagger and misses
- Kam use guiding light and strike for serious damage
- Alton; strikes with advantage at the ogre and deals damage
- Firebeard; he is down but manages to make his first save
- Slickback; misses pathetically
- genesi; takes a strike with bow and sword but not any real damage
- DuTamn; he uses his Lay on Hands on Firebeard and brings him back from the brink
- owlbear; he stands up and hits DuTamn for some serious damage.  He hits him so strong that DuTamn goes flying
- Veshna; he takes time to attack but no effect or help
- Kam cast thunderwave and knock out the owlbear again throws it back against Slickback
- Firebeard; he attacks with normal attack, bonus healing, and actions surge for some serious damage.  He does not fall but he is really hurt.
- Slickback; he is not able to get the owlbear off of him as the weigh 1500 pounds
- Kam take the time to heal the party with the healing hit and manage to heal the other party back to a decent level
- Veshna; gives our party a Goodberry as well as the other party members.
During the healing part we are all able to see that he has a a tattoo under this torn shirt.  Veshna is able to see the tattoo and asks about it because it is the same tattoo as his father.  When Veshna asks about the tattoo George, the main air genesi is surprised that Veshna can see the tattoo.  It also appears that we can see the tattoo also.  This is a point as the genesi appear shocked and they promise to fill us in the details.  After we tend to our wounds the Cronocorn comes back.  We take time to burn the bodies and head out until the end of the day.

We search the Ogre and the Owlbear and find the following items.
- 14 EP
- 7 PP
- 1 potion (Fire Giant Strength)

Before we move on we learn that the tattoo and the ability to see them is part of the chosen.  We are all members of the chosen as we are able to see it.  We learn that we are the Vigilant Lost.  It is our job to stop our world from dying.  Every world has a chosen group and in our world we are that group.  This genesi group is the group for this world.  The genesi were on their way back to take on reinforcements.
The group is that we are going to be adventures and that our lives are now a part of something larger.

We learn that the genesi were trying to enter the forest without using the trails.  They encounter a few hags and barely escaped.  They have been running for three days.  They barely escaped.  After a brief conversation they agree to come with us on the rest of our trip.  We all decide to take a long rest for the night.

During the night we speak with the other party and hear their tale.
They basically were the chosen that replaced the previous group.  Once you accept this challenge the tattoo appears.  When the party diminishes to only one the last one is able to leave themselves and free to another group.  I am going to pray for the night and then in the morning I am going to accept the mantle of the tattoo.

Jon, the Wizard genesi is able to decipher the potion as Fire Giant Strength.  He also give us a bag of holding for our journey.

Day 14; 192 days left; 7 days to Forest of DOOOM!! (Ches 13, Year 498 AF)

Nothing happens until we get to the trail

Day 20; 185 days left; Entrance to Forest of DOOOM!! (Ches 19, Year 498 AF)

Day 23;  182 days left; noon;  Arrive at the Village of Phandalin (Ches 22, Year 498 AF)

When we arrive at the village and the people are pleasant but not really friendly.  The village is not a busy past and when we arrive it is noon time.  When we arrive the town looks normal and does not look like there has been any damage.  We take time to speak with other people and determine that the town has been built on the remains of the previous town.
- Veshna asks about a magical forge but no one really knows about this and has never heard about it.

We arrive at the Stone Hill Inn and we meet with Toblin.  He tells us that Fluffanutta has not been seen in weeks and this is the first time that Toblin has seen him.  We learn that Fluffanutta's assistant Sildar Hallwinter has only been gone for a few day.  Sildar went west with another guard and they left on horse back.  Unfortunately, there are not any horses for sale or lend so it means that we will go on foot.  We learn that the forest opens up at certain times and then the people expand.

We learn about and visit an old adventurer named Daran that now runs an apple orchard.  We visit with him and he tells us that there is a location near here called the Olde Owl Well.  The people the Olde Owl Well have been attacked by undead and other zombie creature.

We take time to meet with the Town Master Harbin Wester about the town and what leads to the west of here.  There is a 210 EP bonus for clearing out the orcs.  He tells that Fluffanutta was in town with his three assistants.  He was heading to the west for a cave system.
We take time to move toward the cause.

This means that we have several opportunities to the west of this village.
- We have the option of recovering the caravan
- Speak with a Hag and bribe her with a comb for a reward of 4 potions
- clear out Orcs from the Wyvern Tor for 210 EP

Day 23;  182 days left; noon;  Arrive at the Village of Phandalin

Day 24;  181 days left; noon;  Arrive at the Village of Phandalin (Ches 23, Year 498 AF)

As we set out on our adventure we are preparing to encounter the events and the set in the following order:

Day 25;  180 days left; morning;  Left at the Village of Phandalin (Ches 24, Year 498 AF)

We leave the village of Phandalin for the west.  the first thing that we will encounter is the Thunder Tree.  The trip to the Thunder Tree is roughly 3 days and we will be traveling by foot.

Day 25;  180 days left; noon;  On the Western trail.

We encounter a two horses that have been killed by arrows.  We can tell that the horses dies a few days ago.  The only equipment that we found is an empty map case.  I take the case and can't locate anything that identifies the case owner.  While we are searching the scene we are attacked by arrows that fly out of the trees.  The arrows match the ones that are in the horses
- An Owlbear and three bugbears come out of the forest
- Kam try with my Guiding Bolt and fail in my shot
- evil tries to attack me and misses
- i make it over to Slickback and take time to use a healing kit
- evil; more arrows from the trees and we take minor damage
- The battle takes a turn for us and we survive the day. [Pretty lame recollection of the battle.]
When we take time to gather the bodies and search them but we do not find anything of use.  The weapons are substandard and the armor is crap.  We can find a trail that leads to the north.
