CURRENT:
We make it to the Wave Echo Cave and we are ready for the
day. When we arrive there are signs of
other groups but nothing is moving. We
are in the cave for about a few minutes before we hear the sound of breaking
waves and ocean. The brothers Tharden
and Gundren Rockseeker are the ones that found that cave after the forest moved
the cavern.
The camp looks like it has been used about a month ago. As we approach the edge of the cliff there is a rope. Slickback is able to use slowfall and he discovers a dead dwarven body. Slickback is able to determine that he was blasted by a spell and not killed
in the fall. Most likely he was killed
down here as there is no damage to the body.
It appears that the body has been picked over and searched.
We can go the east or the northwest. We decide to go to the east tunnel. When we head east into the tunnel Kaminari cast Light on
my mace so that I can bring light to the back.
We enter a cavern that connects to several other tunnels. This room is filled with skeletal gnome and
orc bones. There is a large mural on the
wall. The cavern is 30 feet tall and
there are several lanterns that are unlit.
The mine is cold and damp with an ever present breeze and a constant sound of waves.
Alton enters the room (room # 3) and searches the ceiling
first. He drops the torch and fires an
arrow at the ceiling. We hear the arrow
hit the ceiling and there is a loud animal sound. A group of stirges [spellcheck had changed this & all future references to Sturgis, home of the motorcycle gathering] swoop from the ceiling
toward Alton as he is the one that entered the cavern first.
- Alton; he drops the torch and fires at the ceiling
- DuTamn; not able to hear anything
- Slickback; hears the swoop and moves in
- Aggadah; hears Slickback attack and uses his breath weapon on
the stirges and destroys it.
- Kaminari move to the back of the party and ready for action
- Alton; throws a torch into the room
- Evil; one attaches to Firebeard.
- Slickback; kills two of the swarm
- Firebeard; he manages to pull off the stirge and kills
- I use Sacred Flame and miss
- Alton; moves to the middle of the attack
- DuTamn; moves to Slickback and heals with inappropriate
touch
- Slickback; strikes at the ones on Aggadah and only strikes one
of the stirge. The other attack hits Aggadah.
- Aggadah; Casts Thunderwave and manages to kill several
of the stirge. He does not damage the
one that is attached to him.
- Firebeard; attacks the one on him but misses the attack
entirely
- Kaminari fire with a crossbow and kill it
- Alton; moves but misses
- Evil; it continues to suck major damage on Aggadah
- Aggadah; attacks the one on him but misses
- Slickback; kills the last one in the room
After the battle we take time to search the room for
anything among the skeletons but nothing of interest shows us. This battle looks like it is roughly 300
years old. We take the time to search
the lights and we are able to light one of the lanterns. There are no more stirges. We take 20 but do not see or find anything.
We decide to head to the south tunnel. We can see that there are other tunnels that
lead off. We take the western tunnel and
pull the ring as we do not detect any traps.
We open the door and see that the room has bunks and is partially
collapsed. This appears to be a guard
room. We move in and Kaminari stays just outside
the door. DuTamn is in the hall alcove.
After we enter the room the skeletons start to stir and
rise up. Some of them have weapons and some have scraps of
armor. Roughly 15 to 16 skeletons in
this room. We are not surprised but the
skeletons are faster than we expect. In
addition to the skeletons there are a few that actually smell. The skeletons are vulnerable to bludgeon
which means that they take double damage.
- evil; strikes Aggadah and manages to drop him. Alton and Firebeard take damage.
- Alton; strikes and manages to deal minor damage
- Firebeard; strikes at a fresh but misses him in addition to
pushing him into Slickback
- Slickback; uses his monk awesomeness and strikes at several
of the others near him
- DuTamn; moves past me and hits for a complete kill
- Kaminari take a bold step into the room and cast Turn Undead
and manage to get all but three of them.
Two smelly dudes and a skeleton did not turn.
- Veshna; hits with bludgeon and deals double damage
- Alton; attacks but misses
- evil; a ghoul attacks DuTamn and Veshna and is struck
by a claw damage
- Slickback; manages to kill another two by double damage
- DuTamn; he casts "Natures Wrath" which
creates ethereal tendrils that attack the skeletons and wins the STR check.
- Kaminari move to the main Ghoul and strike with my mace and my
spiritual hammer spell but the main Ghoul does not drop
- Veshna; manages to make another save
- Alton; strikes with bow and gets the sneak attack
damage
- evil; This is
the evil that is bound by the spectral tendrils
- Firebeard; he strikes at the grappled one and kills it
- Slickback; monks the hell out of the two closest
- DuTamn; whacks the nearest skeleton and draws his
attention
- Kaminari manage to destroy one skeleton and miss the other one
with my Spiritual Weapon
- Aggadah; he manages to stand up and heals most of his
major damage
- Alton; shoots the ghoul in the back and removes the
turn effect. He is not killed but he is
pissed.
- evil; strikes at Firebeard but does not manage to paralyze him
- Firebeard; uses his action surge and misses one of the two
attacks but it is enough to kill it
- Slickback; jumps over Veshna and manage to destroy two
skeletons
- Kaminari manage to drop one with my Spiritual Weapon but miss
the second one with my Sacred Flame
- Aggadah; strikes with Shocking Grasp and makes it a
distance spell for tickly damage and removes the Turn Undead feature
- Veshna; strikes with the big swing and deals serious
damage but he is not down
- evil; misses with the counter swing to Veshna
- Alton; he strikes with the final strike and drops the
last skeleton After the battle i take time to heal Aggadah and Firebeard. We take time to search the room but there is
nothing in this room worth taking. The
weapons and the armor are worthless.
We take time to move across the hall and open the door to
what appears to be an office. While we
are exploring the room we hear a noise from the side tunnel. We are attacked by 4 bugbears from the side
tunnel.
- DuTamn; casts eldritch blast for minor damage
- Veshna; he wildshapes into a spider and climbs the wall
- Aggadah; shoots at the one in the back with Witchbolt and
hits. He will maintain the contact
- Alton; manages to strike and kill with his sneak attack
damage
- evil; strikes at DuTamn and manages to miss one and hit
one for minor damage.
- Kaminari can't actually strike with my mace but i manage to
cast Spiritual Weapon and miss.
- Veshna; climbs down the wall and bites one of the
bugbears. The bite deals damage but does
not drop him.
- Aggadah; keeps the contact with the witch bolt and minor
damage
- Firebeard; not able to get to the battle so he searches the
room.
- Alton; manages to drop the closest one.
- DuTamn; holds
- Kaminari take a step up, strike and hit, then step back as i direct
the spiritual hammer. I get out of the
way so that Slickback can move up and strike.
- Aggadah; cast "Vicious Mockery" but the spell
has no effect
- Firebeard; communicates secretly with DM while searching
the other room
- Alton; strikes the one that has not been hit for minor
damage. He imposes advantage on the
other one
- DuTamn; he make an attack and misses
- Kaminari can not attack with my mace but i can attack with and
manage to destroy After the battle we learn that Firebeard has been searching the
other room. There only morning stars and
hide armor. The armor is crap but the
morning stars are pretty good. We
discover that this is the assayers office as it has several papers and scales.
When we get to the door Alton sees that this door is
partially open and he can hear crunching sounds from behind the door. Firebeard kicks the door open and readies for the
attack. When we enter the room we see
several bunks and an old brazier in the center.
There are several sets of bones with destroyed armor. There are 5 shapes that are crunching on the
bones of the fallen. The hall is 10 feet
wide and we all move to the doorway.
There are 5 ghouls in the room
- Alton; fires at the closest one for minor damage
- Kaminari strike with a crossbow but miss
- evil; it strikes at me and deals bite damage only so no
paralysis and he takes Wrath of the Storm damage
- Kaminari take another shot with my mace and miss but i manage
to strike him with my Wrath on the AOO
- Aggadah; makes an attack and forces the creature to
retreat from him but the retreat does not work
- evil; manages to strike and hit with bite and claw but
no one is paralyzed.
- Firebeard; finally manages to hit the ghoul and crush it to
death
- Alton; climbs over the gnome beds and fires from flank
with sneak attack but the ghoul is still up
- Kaminari move up and strike with my mace but do not drop it
- Aggadah; another strike and a hit
- evil; the ghoul nearest me attack at me and hits for
some serious damage but my thunderous rebuke manages to destroy the creature. After the battle we are all seriously hurt, myself included. We take time to search the room but this room
has been picked clean. We all need to do
a short rest so we head back to the original bone room.
Nothing happens as we move through the mine and we manage
to rest.
When we are done with our short rest we take the rough
wall tunnel that leads to the east. As
we approach the bend in the curve we see a cavern that is lit by phosphorous
fungus and mushrooms. There is a green
carpet of glowing fungus on the ground. Firebeard is the first in the room and he is going to throw a bone into the
room. When he does this he sets off a
spore attack that manages to poison him.
It also seems to affect his mood as he is really grumpy.
The eastern of this cavern is a cave in. There is a door in this room that stands
ajar. The door leads to a ruined store
room and a room of broken casks. This is
also a good place for short rest later.
We continue down the hall and we encounter a large room
that has two levels and escarpments. We
notice that the wave noise is louder in here.
These are two braziers and two long tables in the center of the
room. There are dozens of bone bodies in
this room. Firebeard moves to the stairs and
take a peak up to the level with the floor.
There are more bones up top and there is a table at the top of the
platform. As i move into the room i can
hear shuffling. Kaminari move toward the noise
and see nearly a dozen shambling creatures.
I cast bless on Firebeard, Slickback and DuTamn.
- I cast Bless and move back
- Firebeard; he throws his everburning torch to light the
room and then moves back to a defensible position.
- DuTamn; he blasted a spell and then moved to a back
position
- Veshna; casts "Ice Knife" and manages to
damage several of the creatures
- evil; they are ghouls and they move in with speed.
- Aggadah; cast "Shatter" and hits 4 of them for
serious damage on two and minor damage on two
- Kaminari also cast "Shatter" on the same group and
manage to deal severe damage
- Alton; he fires a single arrow and it blasts through
two of the creatures!
- Firebeard; He is still feeling the effects of the poison
but he is trying to kill the best
- DuTamn; cast "Searing Smite" and manages to
hit for massive damage and manages to set him on fire
- Slickback; attacks the nearest with two strikes and hits for
serious damage
- evil; attacks DuTamn and hits with a bite thus
provoking a saving throw that succeeds.
They attack Firebeard with a bite for damage.
- Aggadah; casts "Thunderwave" on the nearest two
ghouls
- Kaminari cast "Guiding Bolt" and hit the big bad
undead for minor damage.
This now grants that the next attack on the ghast deals
advantage damage
- Firebeard; he manages to get repositioned
- DuTamn; casts "Searing Smith" and with his
hit he is able to put the creature on fire
- Slickback; hits and burns a Ki doing to attack three times
- Veshna; he manages to only deal 1 doing of damage
- evil; attacks with a claw but hits DuTamn but does not
paralyze.
the Ghast hits Firebeard but no poison
- Aggadah; he struck but failed
- Kaminari pull out my crossbow and fire at the main Ghast for a
natural 20 that manages to drop the main bad guy.
- Firebeard; he is not poisoned anymore and he kills the
final one.
The battle is over and there is really no point in
searching the creatures as they are just mindless undead.
We earned 789 exp for a total of 3970
