Session 5 - Rise of the Vigilant Lost

The party chooses their destiny and becomes members of the Vigilant Lost. Reach Phandalin in the Forest of DOOOM!! and find out that Fluffanutta and his companions have gone missing. They gain many leads in Phandalin and oddly enough all are west further along the Triboar Trail.

CURRENT

Day 25;  180 days left; noon;  Left at the Village of Phandalin (Ches 24, Year 498 AF)


 After finishing a short rest we take the trail to the north.  Firebeard is able to spot a snare in the middle of the trail.  The trail is too narrow for us to walk side by side.  As we continue along Firebeard trips and misses his dex save and falls into a pit taking a few points of damage.  Timmy!!

After an hour or five miles we see a cave.  There is water near the cave.  We take time to walk to the cave.  There is a stream coming out of one side of the cavern.  There are some creatures inside the cavern that appear to be goblins.
- Firebeard;  runs in an attacks twice
- Firebeard; attacks but misses this time
- Veshna; takes time to sneak up and look in side
- Kaminari take time to position myself at the entrance with a good vantage of the area
- Aggadah; hits with a lightning and kills him
- Aggadah; strikes again and misses
- Veshna; fireball at the last goblin and crits for the death kill

After the goblins are killed we take time to loot the bodies but nothing impressive.  There is no money or any other items.  The cavern take a turn and then a few uneven stones lead up to a small dank chamber.  There are two other branches one to the left and one to the right and straight ahead.  To the right there are a bunch of wolves.
There appear to be three or four and they are chained to the ground.
They are awake and they are snarling and growling.  There appears to a hole in the ceiling.  When the wolves are pulling on their chains they sound like they are tearing out of the wall.
- evil; one of the wolves tears from the wall and he looks bigger than the rest of them.  He attacks Firebeard but does not manage to trip him
- Aggadah; casts dancing lights and we can now see in the cavern
- i heal Firebeard and then move into the cave entrance
- Slickback; fire bends and launches Fang of the Fire Snake at the dire wolf
- evil; one of the other wolves yanks on their chain and pulls free
- Veshna; casts fireball and engulfs the dire wolf
- evil; attacks Aggadah and trips him
- Aggadah; casts witch bolt on the wolf in front of him
- i cast spiritual weapon and attack the wolf for minor damage
- Veshna; he still burns the dire wolf with his fire and deals minor damage
- Alton; kills one with his strike
- Aggadah; uses the witch bolt and strikes again for minimum damage and kills the dire wolf
- I strike with my spiritual hammer and with my crossbow for the kill At the back of the cavern there is a fissure that leads to a chimney that is most likely a dump from above.  The thought is to get Alton to climb the chimney but he declines.  Before the party moves on, Firebeard takes the jaw bone of the dire wolf. [Does Firebeard still have this? This would make an excellent trophy.]

Farther down the tunnel there is a branch to the left with natural steps that lead up.  The ramp is very steep and difficult terrain.  As Firebeard takes his first steps he manages to collapse.  The damage is such that we can not go this route.  It appears that this cavern will continue to collapse if we try to go up.

As we turn the corner we hear a tone of goblin that sounds like surprise or exertion.  Veshna moves around the corner and there is a bridge that runs over the cavern.  We can hear only one of the goblins.  The bridge is about 20 feet above the bridge.  We decide to move quietly around the corner and under the bridge.

As we start to round the corner we hear the roaring of water.  Kaminari, Slickback, and Aggadah manage to dive into the surrounding tunnel and avoid the tunnel.  The rest are rushed down the tunnel and knocked prone.

I take time to run around the corner and cast light on my mace.  There is nothing on the bridge.  The rest of the party is getting up and coming down the hallway.  There are 4 of at the front.  I take time and make it to the bridge.  I take time to pass off the Bag of Holding to Aggadah.  Aggadah jumps onto the bridge with a massive jump and is standing in front of a goblin.  The rest of the party is flushed down the cavern.

I take time to stand and sheath my mace and draw my crossbow.  I am going to get back to the rest of the party.  It seems that this is the only weapon that they have for us.  DuTamn makes it to past the bridge and there are two tunnels, one splits to the left and one to the right.  It appear like there were two retaining walls that were holding water back.  The two walls have been removed and there are only small pools.  There is a water fall coming out of the wall.
There is a small escarpment that is only about 5 feet tall at the back of the water cavern.  There are several goblins that are on the embankment.
- Firebeard; comes under the bridge and throws his axe at the closest goblin.
- I enchant a bolt with light and send it into the next cavern.  The view is for several other goblins.
- Firebeard; runs past and pulls out his axe.  He strikes a goblin and misses.
- Veshna; wild shapes into a panther and climbs up the bridge.
- Slickback; jumps up the wall.
- Firebeard; throws another axe and shockingly misses
- Kam takes time to miss with my attack
- Slickback; manages the decapitate the goblin and deal damage to me in the process.
- evil;  manages to hit Veshna for enough damage to push him out of panther form.
- Aggadah; goes to the steps and looks into the end of the cavern.
There is another room with two columns.
- Alton; finally brings down the final goblin.
We take time to heal the rest of the party back to a good point.  When the rest of the party is ready to go.  As we enter the next room there is a fire pit.  I take the bolt from the goblin even though it cant be used as a weapon it is still a light stick.

Alton moves into the other room and there is something hiding behind the columns and the fire.  The creature appears to be a dog like creature.  As we enter the room we are attacked by several goblins that spring up from behind crates.
- i enter the room and fire/miss at the nearest goblin.
- Slickback; able to hit but not a kill
- Firebeard; strike but no hit
- evil1;  a bugbear with hide armor, a battle axe, and a shield charges at Firebeard
- evil2; another bugbear with a morning star
- Aggadah; casts Thunderwave and deals some serious damage to the evil1 and minor damage to evil2
- evil wolf; is a dire wolf and he charges at me but misses
- Veshna; changes to wolf and charges at the evil1
- Alton; strikes the closest goblin for kill
- i cast spiritual hammer at the farthest goblins but miss
- Slickback; strikes at the goblin and kill shot
- Firebeard; he tries to get between the bugbear and Aggadah
- evil wolf; strikes at me but also takes damage from my channel divinity wrath of the storm
- evil; strikes at Slickback but no damage
- i strike using Guiding Bolt but miss the target completely
- evil wolf; strikes at Kaminari for minor damage but does not trip me
- DuTamn; strikes at the evil2 and brings him down
- Alton; is still not able to kill
- i strike at the evil wolf with my mace and hammer but miss both times
- Firebeard; manages to take town the last of the creatures.
The battle is over and we all take time to heal.  There are a few of the party that need to heal some of us.  There is still a path that connects to the bridge that we have not take yet.  There is a path that leads up.  The crates have the markings the The Thesela Wagon Concern.  This is the group that said that their wagon has been robbed.

     - Alton took one of the potions
     - 2 are with me
- 3 Wheels of Cheese

     - five buttons on the board.
     - Firebeard pressed buttons 1, 2, 3 but only button 1 made a wheel of cheese

We take off for the next tunnel but without out a short rest.  I am still good with hit points but i have lost some of my rebuke abilities.  As we cross the bridge and turn the corner we see a goblin him at the edge of the ledge we come into a larger room.  It appears that the gnome prisoner is the one that was Fluffanuttas friend.
The Goblin tells us that we have to kill the Bugbear in the other
room, the one with the battle axe.    As we are walking into the room
we tell the goblin that we have already killed the bugbear.  At this the goblins strike out with arrows and only manage to graze Firebeard.
The gnome prisoner only falls 10 feet to the ground but he is not moving.
- Slickback; swings but does not kill
- i cast Sacred Flame at the evil next to me and deal some good damage but no kill
- evil; misses an attack at Firebeard
- Slickback; strikes at the goblin on the hill as after using a luck point he drop him with a natural 20
- Veshna; misses with his flame strike
- Aggadah; strikes at the goblin with lightning strike and deals some serious damage
- Slickback; drops the goblin in front of him
- DuTamn; moves to the hurt gnome and uses a healing kit to stabilize him.
- i take time to move and drop the last goblin Once the Goblins are dead we take time to use a healing hit on Sildar.
Veshna also uses his last goodberry.  Sildar tells us that he was traveling with another person but they were taken in separate directions.  The other guy was just a guard so not really a reason to look for him.  We take the time to gather the rest of the bodies at the ending of the scree pit.  When we search the main goblin and find the other

- 3 EP teeth
- 35 TN tin pieces (5 each)
- bag in the corner that is most likely Sildar's gear

We take time to search the cavern but decide to leave the crates and just inform the other where they can find their stuff.  Sildar tells is that he believes that Fluffanutta has been take back to Cragmaw Castle along with the other captives.

Day 25;  180 days left; 8 at night;  On the Western trail. (Ches 24, Year 498 AF)

We arrive back at the Stone Hill Inn and the owner of the crates decides to grant us use of a cart to go and retrieve her goods for a small reward.
