Session 9 - Johnny Showed Up, Ate, Pooped, then Left...

Game 09:  September 24, 2016:  "Jonny Showed Up, Ate, Pooped, then Left..."

We are in Cragmaw Castle, session 8 has that info. Although I was not given the notes for session 8, but received Session 7 twice. Tom is fixing that.

Firebeard moves to the door and takes the point.  There is not even an attempt at stealth on this one.   There is a chamber like a temple.
There is an altar covered with a blood stained cloth.  I can tell that this altar Maglubiyet [how Tom can spell this, but not Johney, is beyond me] which is the god of goblinoids.  There is a priest and several acolytes.
- Kaminari enters the room and blasts the high priestess and completely obliterate her
- Firebeard; take a move into the room and crushes one of the acolytes and pushes another one.
- evil; takes an attack at Slickback and lands serious damage
- evil; attacks Firebeard but his DR takes some of the hit
- DuTamn; moves forward and misses the goblin.

- Kaminari move into the room and smash the nearest of the goblins with my mace and he falls
- Alton; takes the last goblin

When the room is clear we take time to search the room and the altar. I don't find any traps but I also do not locate any secret compartments.  There are several items on the table.  We are able to locate a golden chalice, golden dagger, and a golden censor.

While we are exploring the room Alton is off behind the curtain and is not visible to us.  He starts with the east wall and moves silently.
Alton enters the room and there is a stone brazier on the floor.  We are all alerted to danger when something large, black, and beaked.  I take a second to try to pull down the curtains.  The curtain does not come down and i am pulled into the wall for 1 point of damage.
- Kaminari try to pull down the curtain and manage to damage myself
- Alton; attacks the grick and then uses the disengage action to try to get away
- Firebeard; comes into the room and readies for the next attack
- Slickback; manages to strike and drop the grick

As we examine the room we see that the symbols for knowledge, magic, dawn, and luck.  Oghma, Mystra, Lathander, and Tymora are the gods depicted in this room.  It is most likely that the grick was keeping out the goblins.  We take time to search the room and locate some extremely beautiful pictures on the ceiling.  I take a few minutes to heal Alton and Slickback.  While i am doing this, Alton manages to unlock the door in the room and slowly open the door.

Firebeard is the one that kicks open the room and it is the hallway outside.  We move the other other side of the room and this time we can not detect any traps.  The room is filled with rubble and two curtains cover exits.  One way leads to the outside hallway.  Behind the other curtain the tower has been collapsed.  The walls are damaged and there are several crates and debris.  There is a wall with canvas that covers the window.  The canvas is painted to look like the stone walls.  This is an effect that is not magical but it is really well done.

Alton take time and sees that the next door does not have any locks or traps.  At the end of the hall we see a door and at the right we see a tall curtain.  He listens at the door and he can hear two voices.  One is guttural and the other is silky smooth, probably an elf.  Firebeard and Alton breech the room and move forward.  This room has been set up as a communal area.  There are several creatures in the room at there is a gnome on the floor that is very badly beaten [Fluffanutta].  There is a bugbear, a drow, a wolf, hobgoblin, and some other bad guys.

- Slickback; attacks bugbear in his face but misses twice
- Kam cast bless on Slickback, Firebeard, and DuTamn
- Firebeard; hits and uses his bonus action but misses
- evil drow; launches magic missile at Firebeard and hits for minor damage
- Aggadah; casts careless whisper and deals some minor damage to the bugbear
- evil bugbear; gets off the throne and hits Firebeard
- Veshna; cast fireball and hits bugbear, wolf, and drow but only gets the wolf and the drow.
- evil hobgoblin; attacks Veshna and hits for minor damage
- Alton; fires from cover and misses

- i cast Shatter on the wolf, drow, and bugbear but only damage the wolf and drow
- Firebeard; uses his 2nd wind and heals himself.  He manages the cut the wolf in half. [wow!]
- evil drow; punches Firebeard and minor damage
- Aggadah; casts thunderwave and blasts the drow back
- evil bugbear; attacks Firebeard and misses
- Veshna; attacks the bugbear but misses
- evil hobgoblin; moves forward and strikes at Alton but misses.

- Slickback; moves around the room and strikes at the bugbear with flurry of blows.  He misses one and strikes at another.
- I cast Spiritual weapon and deal some serious damage
- evil hobgoblin; comes running down the hallway at me and takes a minor shot with an arrow.
- Firebeard; takes out the king hobgoblin and crits with his attack
- evil drow; strikes at Aggadah and hits twice for some serious damage
- Aggadah; moves around and sets up the flank for Slickback on his turn.  He hits but only deals some minor damage.
- DuTamn; strikes with advantage and uses his smite ability
- Alton; strikes at the drow as she has cover from the faerie fire but she has disadvantage as the creature is in combat
- Veshna; strikes but misses

- evil hobgoblin; goes after Veshna but misses
- Slickback; punches the drow for minor damage
- Kaminari strikes with the spiritual weapon and my mace but I miss with both
- evil bugbear; attacks Kaminari and deals some minor damage
- evil; fires at Kaminari with an arrow but misses
- evil drow; the other around her see that she is not a drow but a gray rubbery creature when it dies.  Most likely a doppelganger.
- Aggadah; cast shocking grasp on creature with chain mail and deals some serious damage
- Veshan; takes a step back and throws a ball of fire at him for some minor damage
- DuTamn; strikes but misses
- Alton; draws his short bow and hits for max damage

- Slickback; moves to the nearest creature
- Kaminari cash Guiding Bolt at the the evil near me and finally deal some damage.  The spiritual hammer misses.
- Firebeard; misses but manages to push the bad guy
- Aggadah; moves to the battle and try to strike at the closest of them.  He casts Cure spell and uses his Twin ability to heal himself and Firebeard.
- Veshna; casts and drops him now that he has advantage

- Slickback; punches with monk awesomeness and deals some flurry damage that really hurts with a crit.  He manages to drop the bugbear.
- Kaminari managed to drop the bugbear with my advantaged spiritual weapon.
We take time to search the room and the other creatures.  We find the following item while searching the body.  We take time and search and find items on the bodies.  We locate a sack under the main bed.  We take time to search on the throne but nothing interesting.

We take time to search but we find nothing else.  We move down the hall and find that there is a large heavy door that is barred with a heavy bar.  We listen at the door and we do not hearing anything.  There is not a smell either.  We get to this door and we open the bar.  The tower has collapsed and the tower is open and hallow.  There is a bear shaped creature with the head of an owl.  The creature roars and heads towards us.
- DuTamn; runs in the room and brings the holy smite for serious damage
- Alton; rungs into the room and fires over DuTamn at the owlbear
- i cast bless on DuTamn, Firebeard, and Slickback.
- evil owlbear; hits DuTamn with beak and claw
- Firebeard; hits with a crit and manages to knock the owlbear prone
- Aggadah; comes at the prone owlbear and heals the paladin
- Slickback; hits while he is prone and drops him I take the time to pull several feather for an entire sack.  We also take the claws.  While we are searching we discover that there is a chest on a higher level.  Alton climbs up and he take times to search for traps but does not find any.  He opens the chest while it is up on the ledge.  We do not know what is in the chest and have to take his word.  While at the top of the ledge Alton drops both bags of coins down and manages to hit Firebeard in the face twice.

We take time to search the room and there is not another exit or entrance.  When we turn around and try to ask Fluffanutta he is not there.  We take a few minutes to search the room and the other rooms.
When we get to the canvas rooms we hear laughing outside.  We see Fluffanutta and he is outside riding Timmy and frolicking outside.

We talk to Fluffanutta and he tells us that the Wave Echo Cave has the missing ingredient for the potion.  It is the same item that was in his tower that has run out.  He plans to move his operation to the cave.  We want to head home and we ask if we can escort him to the cave and clear it.  We are heading back to town and to speak with Sildar Hallweather back in town.  We decide to travel back to town and he will give us the map.  We are 1 1/2 days from town then another day from town to the cave.

Day 31;  180 days; dusk 

We decide to pull out stuff out and take a run at it with the Detect Magic.  Unfortunately, the only thing that is magic is the shield ring.
The weapons and the staffs are not magic.  We decide to stay the night at the castle and then head out for the morning. We manage to long rest with no event.

Day 33;  178 days;  mid day (Tarsakh 1, Year 498 AF) 
Apparently we traveled on a holiday, Springmeet, which lies between Ches and Tarsakh 

We manage to make it back to town with no problems.  We arrive midday and we set about going to town.
